Entrepreneurs Andrew and Anne-Marie Calder have already taken the North East and Yorkshire by storm with their award-winning take on the traditional recipe.
Now the couple are hoping to expand further, with more retail outlets and working with chefs who are using the products in their restaurants.
“Our Piccalilli products range from mild to hot, hot, hot and are based on a traditional family recipe,” says Andrew, who lives with AnneMarie and their two children in Sunderland.
The couple’s modern version of the classic British condiment piccalilli uses a recipe from Andrew’s grandfather.
“We’ve also got a Chillililli, which is mediumspiced and Sillylilli, which is incredibly spicy,” adds Andrew. “They’re all packed full of fresh, crunchy vegetables and have the perfect balance of sweetness and spice.”
And they’re already whipping up awards for their efforts. “We won a Great Taste award in 2016 by the Guild of Fine Food, which recognises excellent food standards, as well as a ‘Small Business Sunday’ award, which is backed by former Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis,” says Andrew proudly.
