Sharpen your pencils – and taste buds – at Gin School.
Held at The Gin Bar, in Newcastle’s Stephenson Quarter, Gin School offers students the chance to learn all about the history, science and art of the quintessentially British spirit, including the distillation process, the art of mixing and the recent gin revival.
Each month an award-winning distiller leads the Gin School class, and you can expect to see the UK’s top gin brands, new gins on the block and some quirky gins, too. Sanction Gin by Gin without Borders GINstructors will host April’s class, with Masons Yorkshire Gin in May and Mayfield Gin in June.

The class takes place in The Gin Bar’s informal lounge area – not your typical classroom environment – and attendees can expect a relaxed ambience and a warm welcome from the knowledgeable bartenders.
There are only 15 students per lesson, who are treated to tastings: including a gin and tonic, gin cocktail and neat tastings, an interactive talk and a chef’s selection of small dishes from The Gin Bar’s menu, masterfully paired with the gin.
At the end of the night, students are awarded a ‘PhG’ – certifying them as graduates of the Gin School.
Gin School runs on the first Thursday of every month, £30 per person or £50 for two people. The Gin School is also available for private bookings.
