Re-open and ready for guests, St Mary’s Inn is a beautiful gastropub with rooms, sister venue to Jesmond Dene House, and is the perfect base for exploring Northumberland’s beautiful countryside, as well as only being a 10-minute drive from Morpeth town centre.
STAY
St Mary’s Inn has 11 country-style bedrooms that are light and airy with big windows and that tastefully mix old with new. Among the modern décor you’ll find a Victorian wardrobe or Edwardian desk, all adding charm to this Northumbrian inn. All the rooms are individual and unique, with some having high ceilings, one having a terrace area, and adjoining rooms which can be turned into your own private ‘wing’ if you need more room for the whole family.
As well as being family friendly, St Mary’s Inn is also dog friendly, and for a nominal charge they can stay the night too – there will even be a bowl and bedding provided. The bar area downstairs is also dog friendly. There’s WiFi throughout the whole venue, and a hearty breakfast is available for all residents.
EAT
This cosy gastropub has lots of spaces for eating and dining – from the bar with hidden snugs and real fires to the bright restaurant and the outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice. On the menu is good quality, locally sourced food with a distinct Northumbrian flavour.
Served from lunch till dinner, the menu is available both at the bar and the restaurant. A great lunch option are the hearty sandwiches, or if you fancy just a little bite while drinking a pint or two, choose from the fantastic range of bar snacks like home-made black pudding Scotch eggs, pork quavers with a mustard dip or crispy ham hock served with piccalilli.
For those wanting more, try the signature burger, battered haddock and chips, confit lamb shoulder or 65-day, Himalayan Saltaged sirloin steak – you can’t go wrong. There’s also a fantastic children’s menu where they can enjoy a main meal and dessert for just £5.
DRINK
At the bar you’ll find four real ales always available, including St Mary’s custom-made St Mary’s Ale by Rigg & Furrow Brewery in Northumberland. There are also craft keg beers, speciality lagers and ciders, premium gins, a fantastic selection of wines available by the glass, and a range of 20 whiskies. Come in for a drink and a natter, or stop off after you’ve been cycling for a coffee and a rest. Around the pub you’ll find dominoes, jigsaw puzzles and daily papers – make yourself at home and enjoy with a drink in your hand.
