Barrio Comida has has been recognised as the Best Mexican Establishment in the North at the Food Awards England
The annual awards are designed to recognise and reward the talent and hard work of the English food industry, highlighting the best restaurants, takeaways, pubs, cafes, and producers from across the country.
And Durham’s Barrio Comida, a taqueria set up by chef Shaun Hurrell, beat off stiff competition to be crowned winner.
‘’Winning this award was totally unexpected, but it demonstrates that the public enjoys what we do. It’s also a really big pat on the back for me and the whole team and recognising our hard work and passion for the food we create and serve to our guests.,” said Shaun.

Each year the winners are selected based on votes from the public, who nominated their favourite establishments across various categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Gastro Pub of the Year, Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year and Best Street Food amongst others.
