By Andrew and Anne-Marie Calder
Up your festive cheese game with lashings of Calder’s Kitchen Piccalilli, Chillililli – and for the brave – Sillylilli!
The Sunderland-based street food business is owned by Andrew and Anne-Marie Calder – and together they’re taking the region by storm with their British classic.
The business was set up in 2015 after the couple came across an old family recipe from Andrew’s late grandfather, so they started making piccalilli for family and friends. After receiving great feedback, they began trading commercially from their own kitchen. This year, they won a Great Taste Award for their traditional Piccalilli.
Enjoy a piccalilli pick me up in your Boxing Day sarnies with the leftover turkey; or as a side dip on the Boxing Day Buffet to complement the scotch eggs; pork pies, smoked mackerel or even mix into hot or cold potatoes.
Chillililli and Sillylilli also go well with burgers (as a relish), fried eggs and poppadoms and curry.
