The popular Staiths Food Market is back for its third year on Saturday 12th May with the usual mix of local artisan food producers and world street food plus an exciting musical accompaniment from none other than Royal Northern Sinfonia who are based along the river at landmark music venue, Sage Gateshead.
Staged on the river tyne at the Dunston Staiths, one of Europe’s largest wooden structures, this monthly food market has an enviable location, a mere 15 minutes walk from Newcastle’s bustling Quayside on the well known Keelman’s Way cycle route, and provides visitors with a tranquil setting and wonderful river views whilst they browse the delicious local produce. Market goers can also make the most of their trip by taking the chance to explore the Staiths – an important part of Gateshead’s cultural history and the adjoining Saltmarsh Gardens. It’s a great day out for the family with something that everyone can enjoy.
Whether it’s satisfying savoury you’re after or a sweet treat, The Staiths Food Market has something for you. And better still it’s all locally sourced. Food lovers should prepare to be wowed by delicious new food producers and street food stalls including gourmet grilled cheese, Caribbean BBQ, craft beers, loaded fries & artisan cheesecake plus all of last year’s favourites. Choose from hand baked bread, local cheese, organic fruit and veg, ales and spirits, cakes and patisserie, specialist meat and game, free range eggs, sauces and preserves, free-from bakery, freshly brewed coffee and local honey. Once you’ve had your fill of the North East’s best food offerings, sit back and relax and soak up those river views.
“We are so lucky to have access to this impressive monument to local history – and what better way to share it with people than by the universal draw of good food! On a sunny day it’s a joy to see families enjoying the space” Liz – Third Space Events LLP
“The Tyne and Wear Building Preservation Trust have worked so hard to restore the Staiths structure to make it accessible to the public and we very much look forward to continuing to work with them, enhancing their events programme and bringing new visitors to the Dunston Staiths” Sally – Third Space Events LLP
The Staiths Food Market begins on Saturday 12th May and takes place on the 2nd Saturday of each month until September. The market is held on the lower deck of the Dunston Staiths, gates open 11am – 3pm and entry costs just 50p, free for under 14’s.
