We round-up our favourite Christmas markets this year…and all the food that you need to eat.
BIRMINGHAM CHRISTMAS MARKET
The largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria, Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market offers a large range of traditional good and gifts and a selection of tempting food and drink. Make sure to try the pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, and roasted almond, as well as the gluhwein, weissbeer (wheat beer), and hot chocolate. On now until 23 December.
LEEDS CHRISTMAS MARKET
Millennium Square in Leeds will once again be transformed into a scenic winter village this festive season, with plenty to see and do. After a morning of shopping, head for lunch at the popular Alp Chalet restaurant which will be serving up Bavarian-style food or the Kuh Stall – the perfect escape from the cold with a roaring fire and hot drinks available. You can also indulge in tasty treats from the stalls, like crepes, pretzels, potato fritters and Frankfurter sausages. On now until 22 December.
MANCHESTER CHRISTMAS MARKET
Manchester’s award-winning Christmas Market fills the city centre with mouthwatering international food, drinks and delicately crafted Yuletide gifts. Soak up the atmosphere and follow the market trail as it winds through the city centre, tempting you with gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothes and toys. And this year there’s more choice than ever when it comes to food and drink. Treat yourself to a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich, a hot filled Yorkshire pudding wrap, Dutch frites, an espresso martini, mulled gin or even a shimmering gold Prosecco! On now until 22 December.
SOUTHBANK WINTER MARKET
Eat, drink and be merry beside the River Thames at the Southbank Winter Market. Make a beeline for Bar Under the Bridge – a warm hideaway serving cheese-themed food like charcuterie and cheese boards, croque monsieur and baked camembert. It’s all served up with cocktails such as ‘Blood Orange Paloma’, ‘Red Snapper’ and ‘Prosecco Fred’. There’s also The Circus Bar pop-up in front of Royal Festival Hall, Jimmy’s Lodge next to Waterloo Bridge where you can enjoy fondue under twinkly lights, and lots of street food traders from around the world. Oh, and you can also host your Christmas party in one of the market’s private igloos overlooking the River Thames. On now until 27 December.
