On the banks of the beautiful River Derwent, as it meets Bassenthwaite Lake, lies The Lakes Distillery. Take a tour, enjoy a journey of gin and witness the day-to-day life of the distillery.
The Bistro at the Distillery offers honest, generous and full-of-flavour food, focusing on freshness, flavour and simplicity, whether you’re after a coffee and a slice of homemade cake, lunch, afternoon tea or three-course supper.
The on-site shop stocks the whole range of spirits, from Steel Bonnets – the world’s first blend of English and Scotch malt whisky – to The Lakes Gin, The Lakes Vodka and plenty of delicious liqueurs.
The Lakes Distillery also gives back to the community by supporting three local charities, with each brand of spirit associated with one of the charities.
“Independent shops are the lifeblood of communities enabling residents to shop locally, meet other residents and maintain a sense of place and identity,” says Nigel Mills, CEO and co-founder of The Lakes Distillery.
“They are also vital for local and emerging brands who are looking to reach new customers as well as facilitating repeat sales to loyal customers. Unlike major retailers who have strict stocking policies and who may not be able to stock as many local products as they want, the independent retailer can fill this gap in the market as well as offering a point of difference and variety to their customers.”

GIN O’CLOCK
The Lakes Gin gin is made of an eclectic mix of more than 10 carefully selected botanicals, including Cumbrian juniper, one of the county’s oldest plant species, and four others which are native to the Lake District National Park.
