Italian wine bar and kitchen Veeno is set to open in Northallerton’s Treadmills development, bringing an authentic taste of Sicily to the area.
The new venue is set to open at the town’s former prison site, which has been redeveloped into a flagship leisure and retail development, in September.
Owner and operator Chris Fernandes has purchased the franchise from Veeno founder, Nino Caruso, and the venue will serve up wines from Nino’s family vineyard, in Marsala, Sicily, alongside sharing boards – with meats and cheese from speciality Italian suppliers – fresh pasta, pizzas, and cocktails.
The site is also expected to create around 15 new jobs and Chris says he can’t wait to bring a “slice of Sicily” to the area.
“I’m thrilled to be bringing Veeno to Northallerton. Treadmills is an outstanding development and we’re proud to be part of what is becoming a fantastic destination for the town.
“Northallerton has such a strong sense of community, with people who genuinely appreciate great food, drink and hospitality. We believe Veeno will be a fantastic addition to the town and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests through the doors this September.
“Whether you’re meeting friends after work, celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for somewhere to enjoy fantastic wine and authentic Italian food, we want Veeno to become a place people love visiting time and time again,” said Chris.
At the heart of Veeno – which has four other sites in the UK and one in Poland – is the Italian tradition of aperitivo – taking time to relax with friends over exceptional food and wine. Every venue celebrates authentic Italian hospitality, with menus inspired by regional Italian cuisine and a carefully curated wine list centred around Caruso & Minini, the historic Sicilian vineyard, which was set up by Nino’s great-grandfather.
The wine list includes Perluci, a white wine made from Perricone – traditionally a red grape variety – alongside Sirà Syrah and Ayra, a limited-edition sparkling wine crafted using the same traditional method as Champagne.
As well as its food and drinks offering, Veeno has become renowned for its immersive experiences, allowing guests to discover the stories behind the Italian vineyard while sampling expertly paired artisan produce.
Experiences include A Trip to Sicily, where guests enjoy five wines from the Caruso & Minini vineyard paired with a traditional Italian sharing board before finishing with sweet wine and homemade tiramisu based on Nino’s grandmother’s original recipe.
Guests can also enjoy Quattro Rossi, Quattro Bianchi and Veeno’s popular Italian Afternoon Tea, offering a relaxed way to explore Italy’s diverse wine regions and flavours.

Branded hoardings are now in place around the Treadmills site, inviting passers-by to scan a QR code and sign up for exclusive opening updates.
Everyone who registers before launch will also be entered into a competition to win a trip to Sicily, including a visit to the family vineyard in Marsala.
