Pristine beaches, a thriving craft beer scene and surrounded by the ocean, desert, mountains and Mexico. San Diego should be top of your destination dream list for 2019 – coupled with a stay across the border in Baja California, Mexico. Savour editor Georga Spottiswood says these are the places you need to visit in her week-long San Diego feature. Check back each day to see another review and recommendation. Today, it’s Puesto.
Award-winning tacos? Look no further than Puesto, in La Jolla. Brothers Eric, Alan, Alex Adler – along with cousin Lombroto – are Mexican American that are ‘fuelled with a fascination with how local cuisine reflects the people, art and culture of a city.’
Frequent travellers to Mexico City, they blend innovation with family traditions on their menu. They use organic ingredients and their tacos – three of which won awards at the prestigious Tacolandia competition – are made fresh every day.
The restaurant has an infectious energy, where murals by renowned American spray painter, Chor Boogie, add to the vibe. Mix and match tacos are three for $16 and the award-winning fillet mignon, with crispy melted cheese, avocado and spicy pistachio serrano is a game changer.
