Heft Inn and Restaurant in Cumbria has teamed up with talented creatives to offer a series of crafty lunches with everything from wreath making to calligraphy on the menu.
The team at Heft have rounded up some of the region’s top crafters for what promises to be the ultimate calendar of crafty lunches in the build-up to the festive season!
Each interactive workshop session provides the perfect excuse to get out and about this winter, treat yourself to a little pick me up as you have a go at learning something new and reward your learning with a delicious light lunch created by chef Kevin Tickle and his team.
Heft’s first creative lunch is – The Swag with Erda Botanicals, this hands-on class will take place on Wednesday, November 8, led by passionate local artisan florist Becky Hindley. Becky specialises in creating natural arrangements from seasonal, sustainable flowers and foraged materials. On the day Becky will lead guests in a step-by-step tutorial, which will guide each participant through the process of creating a beautiful seasonal swag to take home.
The second creative lunch is Dried Winter Wreath with Forage & Foliage will take place on Wednesday, November 15 – led by specialist florist Katie Thompson. Guests can create their very own forage and foliage style Christmas wreath from scratch using a choice of textured foliage, dried delights and luxurious coloured ribbons to craft a creation to adorn their home this coming festive season.

The third creative lunch is Christmas Calligraphy for Absolute Beginners with By Moon & Tide. This festive session led by Claire Gould of Furness’s By Moon & Tide, will take place on Wednesday, November 29. On the day, guests will join Claire and explore the basics of gorgeous swirly calligraphy, learning how to use a pointed pen and nib with a dippy inkpot to create beautiful Christmas gift tags. Claire’s calligraphy workshops are relaxed and full of laughter.

The fourth creative lunch is Fresh Moss Wreath with the Forage and Foliage. This session on Wednesday, December 6 is led by expert florist Katie, who will demonstrate the process of creating a unique fresh moss wreath from scratch using sustainable floristry methods. Guests will have access to an abundance of foliage, dried fruit, berries and velvet ribbons.
Each session gets underway at 10am with freshly brewed tea or coffee and homemade baked treats before getting started.
“As each crafting session draws to a close, we’ll serve up a light lunch – just the thing to reward yourself with after a hard morning’s crafting as you sit back and discuss and admire your collective masterpieces,” said a team member from Heft.
Places are limited and must be pre-booked, each course includes all materials, expert tuition, tea and coffee, baked treats, a drop of mulled wine, and a light lunch to round things off.
