The Michelin Guide to Great Britain and Ireland 2023 has announced which restaurants earned, kept, or lost their prestigious star ratings.
In 2023, the list added no new restaurants to its three-star ranks, keeping the total number of three-starred restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland at just eight.
20 restaurants received their first star – including Newcastle’s Solstice by Kenny Atkinson which he set up with his wife Abbie.
An ecstatic Kenny, who also owns Newcastle’s House of Tides, which retained its Michelin star said: “I’m very happy, overwhelmed for the team, they’ve worked so hard this year.” It is the first time Newcastle has had two one-Michelin-starred restaurants by the same owners on the same stretch of the Quayside.
A total of 14 restaurants in the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria gained or retained their Michelin star – the most prestigious award in the hospitality industry. The coveted Michelin Guide recognises the best places to eat in Great Britain and Ireland.
