There’s no winging it when it comes to Debbie Winch’s new venture, The Chicken Shed. Savour takes a look at how the business has been a real coop for Sunderland
Foodies are in a flap over The Chicken Shed’s menu. With everything from hanging chicken kebabs, chicken wraps and … well, chicken, it’s proving to be a real hit.
So why chicken? “It’s just so popular,” explained Debbie.
The beach hut style premises was formerly So Wok noodle bar, which Debbie also owns but has relocated to Southwick.
“We’re in a lovely location here but we feel like this view was wasted on deliveries,” said Debbie, who’s completely transformed the site.
Wooden flooring and walls and a front desk covered with chicken wire give the place a shed-like feel; while vintage images of old chicken coops and farms add to its quirkiness.
Debbie said: “I’ve been collecting antiques and images for months, going to car boot sales and rummaging through vintage stores as I knew I wanted to give it this look.”
As well as chicken, there’s a brunch menu and coffee and cakes in the afternoon – as well as a hanging kebab dessert.
The Chicken Shed is open daily from 10.30am with last orders for food at 7.45pm. The Chicken Shed is now closed for business (2021)
