THE STORY SO FAR...

The idea for Taste Club was born 10 months ago by Valda Goodfellow, who has worked with chefs and mixologists for years, helping them get creative when it comes to food and cocktail presentation.

She’s the queen of sexy plates and cracking cocktail kits and has worked with most household names including James Martin, Jason Atherton and Paul Ainsworth.

Over many G&Ts with Georga Spottiswood, the founder of food, drink and travel-lovers’ magazine Savour; the pair concocted a plan – to use their networks of chefs, food and drink producers and masters of mixology to create the perfect night in, in a box!

Then Covid-19 struck, and quicker than they can drink a G&T, they watched as the
industry started to sink.

Cue Liam Goodfellow, Valda’s stepson, who, desperate to help the instrusty he grew up in, drew up a new battle plan. The aim? To help as many regional craft spirit and food producers stay afloat as possible; all of whom have worked tirelessly and passionately to build their own businesses and are facing a precarious future.

In order to toast these top producers sooner – and to get the party started at home – Taste Club will launch across Savour’s website, while we build a new one.

WHAT’S IN GIN BOX:EDITION ONE?

You’ll find one bottle (70cl) of Quaker Gin – a labour of love of husband and wife team, Paul and Leanne Colman, from Darlington.

There’ll also be two bottles of Merchant’s Heart Hibiscus Tonic, which has a delicate and fruity sweetness, soft bitterness and a gentle rose tint – and pairs perfectly with the botanicals in Quaker Gin (even if you aren’t used to these flavour notes, trust us, they really work!).

For your snacks, you’ll receive a bag of Yorkshire Crisps – a company which was founded by businesses and part-time farmer, Ashley Turner.

If you haven’t tried Belazu snacks as a brand, get ready to be addicted to their products. School friends Adam and George started out as an olive company, supplying to leading chefs and restaurants, including Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons.

Keen to expand their range, they now supply pastes, pesto, oils and vinegars to supermarkets such as Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.

Their sensational Socca Nut Mix inside the Taste Club box is a unique blend of cashews, giant corn, almonds and chickpeas, coated with gram flour and parsley. You won’t find these in the supermarket!

Tea designer and Quinteassential founder, Bernadine Tay, has a background in biomedical science and her tea blends have won many awards.

The tea sommelier’s range is inspired by travel, culture and the arts and Bernadine’s Cleanse Tea, which you will also find in your Gin Box is a nod to the ancient cleansing rituals of Morocco’s ornate bathhouses. Inspired by the best chai, Cleanse is designed to calm the senses and is perfect with chocolate, after exercise, a meal – or the morning after your gin!
