She attributes her victory when winning the seventh Great British Bake Off to baking since the age of four. Meet Candice Brown. She will be appearing at this year’s Bishop Auckland Food Festival which takes place from 21st-22nd April. We took the time to have a chat before she cooks up a storm in the Cookery Theatre.
What is your favourite recipe from your cookbook Comfort?
My nan’s boiled fruit cake. She was my favourite person in the whole world and I adored her. Her actual handwritten recipe is photographed. It means the most to me.
Have you ever had a ‘soggy bottom’ cake accident?
Most definitely. I learn from my mistakes – that, or I chuck it away, don’t tell anyone and start again. If it looks bad I would just say eat it with your eyes closed.
